Excursion tips
Our holiday home is a starting point for our guests to hike and explore the surrounding area, but also for cycling tours on the two-country route of the Euregio Rhine-Meuse or the manor house route on the Meuse and Niers rivers.
We have cycling maps and a wide range of tourist information brochures available to help you plan your stay according to your individual needs.

Grieth
– A district of Kalkar: A former fishing village with charming little streets (especially Limmerstraße!) and a pedestrian/bicycle ferry. This allows you to cross to the other side of the Rhine for a small fee. A particularly enjoyable experience for families with young children, even if the other side of the Rhine – apart from a good fish restaurant – doesn't offer much.
Kernies Family Park – Kernwater WonderlandEasily accessible on foot. French fries, soft ice cream and soft drinks are included in the admission price.
Kalkar – Historic town center. Here you'll find the nearest shops (discount stores, bakeries, etc.), as well as some nice restaurants and snack bars. Take a look at the market square and the old mill. From Hönnepel towards Niedermörmter lies the beautiful "Mühlenhof Golf & Country Club".
Wissel – Natural outdoor swimming pool and boat rental, Wisseler Dunes. The "Wisseler See" leisure and camping park offers, among other things, bowling and skittles. Interesting guided tours and hikes in and around Wissel are offered by http://www.niederrhein-natouren.de. Segway tours are also available there.
Emmerich – Rhine promenade with the Katjes factory outlet. "Embricana" swimming pool. Boat trips on the Rhine are available from here. The Dutch border runs directly along this stretch. In the Netherlands, many shops and discount stores are also open on Sundays. Also of interest: Eltenberg hill in Hochelten with its panoramic views of the Rhine Valley.
Moyland Castle- Famous moated castle with art museum, near the 18-hole "Land Golfclub Schloss Moyland".
Anholt – Biotop Wildlife Park - "Anholt Switzerland": Bears, wolves, and wildcats in spacious enclosures, a petting zoo, and a beautifully landscaped lake with natural rocks and the Swiss House. Anholt Castle is located nearby.
Rees – Rhine promenade, insider tip: The city of Rees occasionally offers guided tours through the old underground fortifications ("casemates"). These tours are announced on the city's website.
Xanten – Roman city: Great historic city center, impressive cathedral, archaeological park. At Xanten's "South Lake" there's a natural outdoor swimming pool, restaurants, boat trips, boat rentals, mini-golf, a climbing park, and water skiing. A shipwreck at a depth of 12 meters invites divers to explore. There are also restaurants at the North Lake. Both lakes have good cycling and walking paths. KaXaWü in Xanten-Wardt offers camel rides in a desert landscape.
Kevelaer The pilgrimage town of Twisteden boasts a beautiful town center, and for families with children up to about 14 years old, "Irrland" (Irrland) is a must-see. A small entrance fee offers endless possibilities. Free grills are available everywhere, and kiosks sell ice cream, fries, drinks, etc. at reasonable prices. There are also many water slides. If the weather is good, be sure to bring swimwear and towels.
Weeze – Large indoor go-kart track. Every other Saturday, 90-minute children's training for €25. Beautiful zoo with free entry.
Goch – Goch Ness indoor swimming pool and large, beautiful sauna. In summer, the natural outdoor pool can also be used. The donkey farmer in Goch-Kessel offers donkey treks – a truly unique way to relax.
Kleve – County town with a beautiful shopping street and the impressive Schwanenburg Castle. The tower houses a museum and is open to visitors. Kleve Zoo. Handcar rides with Gelderland Draisine to the Dutch border. Tichelpark Cinema. Kleoland Indoor Playground for younger children.
Arnhem Burgers' Zoo: A very worthwhile zoo, open year-round (desert, ocean, jungle). The nature reserves "Hooge Veluwe" and "Veluwezoom" are also well worth a visit.
Nijmegen – oldest city in the Netherlands. Many medieval buildings and good shopping opportunities.
Gelsenkirchen – Zoom Adventure Park Also worth seeing is a zoo, mostly outdoors
Kekerdom – Netherlands. Starting point for tours into the Millingerwaard. Nature reserve in a bend of the Rhine with wild horses and the “Millinger Theetuin” (tea house).
Oberhausen – Centro: A huge shopping center surrounded by a cinema, aquarium, water slides and much more…
Maasduinen – Netherlands: Large national park that stretches along the border on the Dutch side.
Venlo – Netherlands. The city center is located directly on the Meuse River. A wide variety of shopping opportunities. Shopping is also possible on Sundays.
Velden – Located near Venlo in the Netherlands, “Taurus – World” offers the largest laser tag arena in Europe. It also features bowling alleys and indoor mini-golf.
